Don’t let summer ruin your hair: simple protection tips that actually work

Summer brings sunshine, holidays, and time outdoors, but it can also be challenging for your hair. UV rays, chlorine, salt water, and heat can all contribute to dryness, fading colour and increased breakage.

One of the easiest ways to protect your hair is to shield it from direct sun exposure. Wearing a hat or scarf can help minimise UV damage, particularly during the hottest part of the day. Many leave-in conditioners and styling products now contain UV filters, offering an extra layer of protection.

If you're swimming, wet your hair with clean water before entering the pool. Hair acts like a sponge, so saturating it first can reduce the amount of chlorinated or salty water it absorbs. After swimming, rinse your hair as soon as possible to remove any lingering chemicals or salt deposits.

Summer is also a good time to reduce heat styling where possible. Hair is already exposed to high temperatures outdoors, so giving your straighteners and curling irons a break can help prevent additional stress and dehydration.

Hydration is key. Weekly deep-conditioning treatments can replenish moisture and help keep hair soft, smooth and manageable. Regular trims are also beneficial, preventing split ends from worsening during the warmer months.

With a few simple adjustments to your routine, you can enjoy healthy, shiny hair all summer long. If you're planning a holiday or need personalised product recommendations, our team is always happy to help.
